You can also fill out the Volunteer Interest form which will be included in the PTA packet you will receive from your child’s teacher at Open House. Please return it to your child’s teacher within the first week of school.
Book Fair Volunteer Coordinator: Help Mrs. Uncles, the librarian, recruit, schedule, and contact book fair volunteers. It is held twice a year in fall and spring. This can be done from home.
Box Tops for Education/Labels for Education: One person needed for each. Coordinate Box Tops and Campbell’s Labels for Education contests twice each year.
Chantilly Pyramid Minority Student Achievement: Act as Poplar Tree PTA representative with the Chantilly Pyramid Minority Achievement Committee. Attend meetings and provide feedback to the Poplar Tree PTA board.
Fall Festival Committee: Oversee all aspects of Fall Festival activities: Hayrides, Chili Cook-off, Food Vendors, Legos, Pumpkin painting, Pie in Face, etc. This event is scheduled for October 2016. Now is the perfect time to begin planning this fun community event!
Fairfax County Council PTA Liaison: Act as Poplar Tree PTA representative with the Fairfax County Council of PTAs. Attend meetings every two months and provide feedback to the Poplar Tree PTA board.
Movie Nights: Plan and execute one (or all) of the three Family Movie Nights. The nights are targeted for October 2, 2015, February 26, 2016, and April 29, 2016. Includes refreshments.
Odyssey of the Mind: This is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Kids apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and World level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program. Poplar Tree needs a coordinator of this valuable program. They will assist the Advance Academics Teacher with coordinating a team at Poplar Tree.
Publishing Center Coordinator: Overall coordinator of Publishing Center volunteers. Establish weekly schedule and provide support in publishing center as needed. Training will be provided.
Reflections: Coordinate the PTA Reflections art competition. Advertise the program to students, collect entries, arrange for judging of entries, submit winning entries by deadline to county, and arrange for awards for our school winners. Reflections work is done at home and school from August – November.
Safety Patrols: Is your child going to be a safety patrol? Here’s an easy job. Be at the school every other Friday morning for about 20 minutes before school starts to provide snacks and juice to the patrols. Also supply snacks for the Christmas and end of the year party. This is a yearlong duty and you will need to be at school.
Sixth Grade Celebration: For 6th grade parents. Coordinate the 6th grade end-of-year celebration. Serve as liaison between school and parents, form a committee of parents, oversee committee meetings, delegate tasks, and ensure that school and PTA rules are followed.
Spirit Wear: Manage the PTA spirit wear sales: maintain inventory, and coordinate spirit wear sales at Open House, Back to School Nights and other PTA events. Yearlong with work mainly at school events.
Talent Showcase Committee: Plan and execute the Annual Talent Show to be held in February. Coordinate rehearsals and produce talent show program.
Volunteer Coordinator:We periodically need volunteers to help with events/activities at the school such as Picture Day, Vision Screening, Book Fair, and SOL testing. This person would be the POC for coordinating these Ad Hoc volunteer requests and schedules.
